Book titled "Big Money: Who is in Control?" with a helicopter silhouette over mountains. Nearby, yellow glasses rest on a newspaper.

This book would not typically fall under the genres I usually gravitate towards in my reading habits. This particular title piqued my interest, prompting me to enter a giveaway on LibraryThing, a platform I frequently use to discover new literary works and connect with fellow book lovers. The premise of the book seemed intriguing, and I was curious to explore themes and narratives that lay outside my usual scope. After receiving the book, I eagerly began to dive into its pages, anticipating a journey that would transport me to a different time and place. As I immersed myself in the story, I quickly discovered that while it is primarily categorized as historical fiction, it possesses elements that could easily classify it as a political thriller as well.

The intricate weaving of historical events with a gripping plot filled with suspense and intrigue. The characters were not just figments of imagination; they were deeply rooted in the complexities of their time, facing moral dilemmas and engaging in political machinations that mirrored real-life events. The author crafted a narrative that not only entertained but also provoked thought about the socio-political landscape of the era in which the story is set. I found myself reflecting on the parallels between the historical context portrayed in the book and contemporary issues, which added an additional layer of depth to my reading experience. This unexpected blend of genres has not only broadened my literary horizons but has also rekindled my appreciation for narratives that challenge the boundaries of traditional storytelling.

The Review

“Big Money Who is in Control” is set in the turbulent 1960’s where one president is assassinated, another is stepping into office, and the Vietnam war is raging. New and old Sentinels work together to uncover sinister plans revolving around money, power, and influence. The story was set as a fictional one, however, there were a lot of similarities to going-ons in present day which presents some food for thought. I think this would be a good read for anyone who enjoys topics of economics, capitalism, government mixed with some action. I did find myself having trouble at times keeping so many characters straight and most lacked dimensionality. Overall this was ok.
