I actually found a free copy of this intriguing book available on an advertisement while casually scrolling through Facebook late one evening. As I was on the lookout for a good horror story to immerse myself in, this particular title and its cover art immediately caught my eye. The imagery depicted an amusement park at night, shrouded in darkness, which evoked a creepy and eerie vibe that perfectly aligned with the haunting atmosphere I was craving at that moment. The park's towering roller coasters and dimly lit attractions seemed to whisper secrets of thrill and terror, creating a sense of anticipation that drew me in even further. Intrigued, I decided to delve deeper and checked the description provided alongside the book. The synopsis hinted at a chilling narrative that promised to weave together elements of suspense and supernatural occurrences, which only heightened my interest.
After reading the description, I also took a moment to peruse some of the reviews from other readers. I find that reading others' opinions can be quite enlightening; however, I always try to maintain an open mind as I approach a new book. People's tastes in literature can vary widely, and just because someone else doesn't enjoy a book or, conversely, absolutely adores it, doesn't necessarily mean that my own experience will mirror theirs. Each reader brings their unique perspective and emotional responses to the table, which can drastically influence how they perceive a story. With this in mind, I felt excited about the prospect of diving into this tale, eager to see how the narrative would unfold and whether it would resonate with me in the same way it had for others. The combination of the gripping cover art, the intriguing premise, and the mixed reviews only added to my anticipation, making me even more determined to explore the dark and twisted world that awaited within the pages of this book.
The Review
“Dark Ride” by P.G. Kassel was a quick horror novella following criminal Marty Wedlow who seems to always slip out of the grasp of the police until one day his luck changes. The build up of the horror in this novella was slow but concluded with a jam packed karmic ending. This was an entertaining, dark, and quick read that any horror loving adult could enjoy.
