Tablet with book cover "Definitely Better Now" by Ava Robinson, featuring a cartoon woman on a pink couch. Headphones and vase nearby.

Upon glimpsing the book's cover art, I initially presumed it would delve into a clichéd narrative of a heartbroken woman immersed in self-pity. However, upon reading the description, I discovered that my assumptions were completely off the mark. I was captivated by the synopsis, finding it both intriguing and relatable, particularly in light of my own journey towards sobriety (I recently reached the 10-year milestone and haven't looked back since). The increasing societal openness towards discussing once-taboo subjects like sobriety and mental health is truly commendable. No longer relegated to hushed conversations or stigmatized whispers, these topics are gaining the attention and respect they deserve. This shift not only fosters a supportive environment for those grappling with similar issues but also encourages a broader understanding of the complexities involved in the journey of recovery.

This book has truly won my heart; it offers a refreshing perspective that challenges stereotypes and invites readers to engage with the realities of personal growth and healing. The author’s ability to weave together poignant narratives with relatable experiences creates a profound connection with the audience. I found myself reflecting on my own path, the struggles I faced, and the victories I celebrated along the way. The insights shared within the pages are not just for those on a similar path but resonate universally, making it a compelling read for anyone interested in the human experience.

The Review

I absolutely adored this debut novel by Ava Robinson. "Definitely Better Now" is a fresh, modern, POV on a young woman's journey to and through the beginning of her sobriety. The novel's main character Emma is undeniably relatable, witty, but most of all human. She is just trying to make her way through life's ups and downs like the rest of us, trying to feel as "normal" as possible. i believe this is a must read!
