I discovered this intriguing book through a Goodreads giveaway, an opportunity that piqued my interest and prompted me to delve into its contents. My primary motivation for picking it up was to explore whether it contained valuable insights related to leadership and essential business skills, which are crucial for anyone aspiring to navigate the complexities of the business world. Although I do not currently own my own business, the idea of entrepreneurship resonates with me deeply. The prospect of being my own boss and collaborating with a select group of like-minded creators is incredibly appealing. Many individuals, including myself, often find themselves yearning for an escape from the monotonous routine of working within the confines of a corporate environment. The image of sitting in a cubicle, surrounded by bland walls in a nondescript building, while immersed in the relentless hustle and bustle of a sprawling city, is hardly inspiring. Instead, the dream of cultivating a vibrant and dynamic workspace, where creativity and innovation flourish, is one that many share.

Returning to the book, it is one of the few that I have read, but It is packed with a wealth of practical information and insights. Throughout the chapters, I found numerous quotes that may be quite familiar to readers, which serve to reinforce the key principles being discussed. These quotes act as touchstones, providing clarity and depth to the lessons being imparted, making the information more relatable and memorable. Each page turned brings with it a new nugget of wisdom, reinforcing the idea that with the right mindset and skills, the dream of owning a business can transition from mere fantasy to tangible reality.

The Review

"Do Bigger Things: A Practical Guide to Powerful Innovation in a Changing World" by Dan McClure and Jennifer Wilde is a business book centered around ecosystem innovation. They go on to explain what ecosystem innovation is, relay stories within the greater story to provide instances of this concept, and provide the “building blocks” of how anyone can implement these ideas and be successful. Overall, the book was alright. I appreciated the examples of innovations provided to help explain the ideas and concepts. I found this to be like many other business related books where it began to feel quite repetitive and therefore making it a much slower read. I’m sure there are people that could find this book to be quite helpful.
