Girl Falling was one of many Goodreads giveaways wins that I was so lucky to have acquired. Initially, the book's description lured me in as it hinted at a complex web of relationships and events. The narrative sounded similar to those chilling tales often featured in true crime shows and documentaries. When I finally got the notification that I had won a copy of this book, I was ecstatic to receive it and finally read. I eagerly awaited for it to arrive and when it was finally delivered I was able to dive in head first, and see if this book would provide the kind of story that I had anticipated. Let's just say that I was not disappointed on my completion of reading this book.
The pacing of the story was similar in nature to that of the many true crime episodes that I have indulged in in the past and its suspenseful narrative had me clinging on to the edge of my seat all the way through. Author, Hayley Scrivenor, skillfully crafted a plot that was not only attention grabbing but also mysterious, weaving through the intricacies of human behavior and the darker aspects of life that often go unnoticed. As I turned each page, I found myself increasingly absorbed in the character's lives and their possible motivations, trying to put the pieces of the puzzle together. Through the duration of the story, I found the suspense to be perfect and then as I approached the ending, I was hit with an unexpected twist. Just as I thought I had figured out where the story was headed, the author introduced an unexpected development that not only added depth to the narrative but also left me reeling. The ending finished with a masterful conclusion to the built up tension that had been prevalent throughout the book, reminding why I enjoy these types of stories, simply because they keep me guessing until the very last moment.
The Review
ARC Review-
“Girl Falling”, is a whirlwind of a mystery thriller set in Australia. The story centers on three women, Finnlay “Finn” Young, her girlfriend Magdalene “Magdu” Fernandes, and Finn’s best friend, Daphne Bennett who go rock climbing together. What should have been a fun yet routine climb turns tragic when Magdu falls to her untimely death. Author, Hayley Scrivenor, set the stage for what I can only describe as a riveting and twisty story that had me on the edge of my seat waiting to see what was going to happen next. I was eagerly putting pieces of the puzzle together right along with main character Finn and the police investigating the “accident”. While there were characters I didn’t care for in personality, they were absolutely necessary to weave together the plot of the story. It reminded of a story you might watch on the Investigation Discovery channel or Mean Girl Murders show. I really enjoyed this book and I think anyone who loves an engaging mystery narrative will enjoy this one as well.
