I don't generally go out of my way to read romantic comedy books, this particular one caught my eye with its charming cover and intriguing premise, compelling me to give it a whirl despite my usual reservations. The combination of an engaging storyline and delightful characters promised an enjoyable experience, and I was not disappointed. From the very first chapter, I found myself immersed in the lighthearted and playful world that the author had created. There were so many moments that had me literally laughing out loud, much to the curiosity of my spouse, who would frequently glance over with a puzzled expression, eager to know what was so amusing. Each time I attempted to explain the humor, I realized that it often felt like a "you had to be there" moment, where the magic of the situation was difficult to convey without the context of the narrative. The witty dialogue and clever situations crafted by the author made it clear why I was so entertained, as they were infused with a relatable charm.
As I dove deeper into the story, I encountered several points that some readers might consider cheesy or overly sentimental. However, I found these moments to be endearing rather than off-putting. They added a layer of warmth and authenticity to the characters' journeys, making it feel as though I was witnessing genuine connections unfold. This delightful blend of humor and heartfelt emotion really fit the bill for a contemporary romcom, capturing the essence of what makes this genre. The book also featured a wonderful cast of supporting characters, including quirky friends and family members who played pivotal roles in the protagonist's life. Each character brought their own unique personality traits to the table, enriching the narrative and providing a well-rounded backdrop for the romantic escapades that unfolded.

The Review
"Hate to Fake It to You" by Amanda Sellet is a novel that follows a trio of friends who create a faux online influencer personality that takes a quirky heiress by the heart strings. Set in beautiful Hawaii, main character Libby Lane and her friends Jean and Keoki continue the charade of “Lillibet” when said heiress reaches out wanting to meet up. Things take an unexpected turn once the in-person meetup happens and things do not go as any of them had planned. This novel had so many instances where I was literally laughing out loud. It was not only funny, but also had romance angle to it which I found to be lighthearted and enjoyable. I think my favorite part of the story was the characters, which each had their own delightful quirks about them and in their own rights could probably have their own stand-alone books. Definitely recommend to anyone who loves a good romcom.
