This book was selected by my book club 'When Mom Talks Everyone Listens' as our inaugural group read. The backstory to our book club's name is quite amusing, but that's a tale for another time. Our book club is currently comprised of myself and some fellow introverted family members. We came together to establish a book club due to our shared passion for reading and the somewhat daunting prospect of socializing with new people. Admittedly, our hectic schedules, geographical distances, and preference for connecting beyond the usual communication methods like calls, texts, and Facetime also played a role. While we haven't delved deeply into group readings due to our indecisiveness in selecting books, we have managed to read a few together and aim to explore more titles in the future. Below is my personal review of this book, so I hope you enjoy it.
The Review
"Notes on an Execution" by Danya Kukafka is a hidden gem of a novel. The story is full of suspense, told through the eyes of various women who have encountered Ansel Parker (a man waiting to be executed) throughout different stages of his life. The women in this novel are the powerhouses of the story as we delve into their stories of trauma, heartbreak, and fear. I enjoyed how this story was written and I found the characters to be superb. Highly recommend.
