I found this romantic fantasy while scrolling on Instagram and after reading a post of author, Maria A. Eden, whom had mentioned her new book coming out this year. I was so excited after reading the post blurb and the new books description that I immediately decided that I just NEEDED to apply to be an ARC reader. I won't lie, when I received an email from the author herself shortly thereafter and I was ecstatic. Maria had mentioned that the new book was actually book two in the series and that she thought it would be a good idea to read book one first. I felt so silly and I had a face palm moment thinking to myself, "ugh why didn't I think of that". Thankfully for me, Maria was gracious enough to send over a copy of book one, The Gray Prophecy and I dove right in.
I quickly fell in love with The Gray Prophecy as I've been very interested in romance and fantasy books this year. A few chapters in, and I was immediately captivated by the rich story that the author had crafted. The intricate details of the setting in coastal Maine, combined with the witchy backstory, drew me in like a moth to a flame. The characters are mysterious yet beautifully developed, and they each have their own unique backstories and motivations that make them realistic and intriguing. As I climbed further into the narrative, I found myself completely engrossed in the romantic tension that unfolded between the protagonists. Their chemistry was tangible, filled with longing glances and unspoken words that made my heart race.
The way the author wove their romance into the larger narrative of destiny and conflict added layers of complexity that kept me turning the pages. I appreciated how the author explored the choices that the characters had to make even if it came at a great personal cost. These literary choices added a deeper level of depth to the overall construction of the story that fulfilled the satisfaction meter for me to the brim. It was a truly fun witchy experience that I would highly recommend to anyone who enjoys a well written tale filled with magic, adventure, and romance.
The Review
Cozy paranormal romance “The Gray Prophecy” follows Dr. Cordelia “Cori Evans” Mangianelli an ecologist and self-imposed loner. As a young child and Celestial witch she verbalizes a prophecy that stands to disrupt the realm of magic for all witches alike. Years later, she winds up in a small coastal Maine town where she meets Adrian Huxley, dedicated son in a lobstering family of Elemental witches. This was a sweet tale with the perfect amount of spice—just enough to get you hot around the collar but romantic and endearing in its own right. The plot was enchanting and the characters quite charming. I especially loved supporting character Jordan even though his role was small he had me laughing out loud several times. This story was everything I hoped for and more, a truly cozy and enjoyable read.
