Once I reignited my passion for reading, I conducted some online research to discover ways of accessing new books inexpensively or for free. During my exploration, I came across various websites offering the opportunity to read recently published and unreleased books (eARCs) without any cost, in exchange for an honest review. I was pleasantly surprised by this concept and eagerly joined one of the highly recommended platforms, Netgalley. When using Netgalley, it is important to note that for most unreleased books, you need to request permission to access them, and it is at the discretion of the publisher or author to grant you that access. Additionally, each reader is assigned a reviewer score that can be influenced by your commitment to reviewing the approved books. This score is crucial as it indicates to publishers and authors your reliability in providing feedback. I find this arrangement to be simple and beneficial – after all, who wouldn't appreciate free books? The book I selected from Netgalley for my first read exceeded my expectations, and here are my thoughts on it.

The Review

I thought author Kate Braithwaite did an obvious amount of detailed research into the lives of women and era that "The Scandalous Life of Nancy Randolph" revolved around. I found this work of historical fiction to not only clearly paint a picture of the times these women lived but also showed how truly resilient and strong women are. They continuously endure hard times, traumatic happenings, and yet they keep pushing forward. I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone who can appreciate a book based on a true story with many twists and turns, many of which they won't see coming.
