I could not refrain from entering the giveaway for this book because not only was the description creepy and eerie in the best way possible, but the cover is absolutely gruesome, and I’m here for every bit of it. The moment I laid eyes on the cover, I was immediately captivated by its unsettling imagery and haunting color palette. The intricate details, from the shadowy figures lurking in the background to the chilling pie illustration, hinted at the dark and twisted narrative that awaited me within the pages. It's fascinating how a well-designed cover can evoke such strong emotions and set the tone for the entire reading experience. I love that when you really inspect the cover, it gives clues into what you're about to read, almost like a puzzle waiting to be solved. Each element seems to whisper secrets, drawing you in deeper and igniting your curiosity about the story's unfolding mysteries.
I read this awesome horror story in my downtime this summer while on vacation with my family. It was one of those rare moments when I found a quiet corner away from the hustle and bustle of family activities and the sun-soaked gatherings. As I settled into my cozy spot, the world around me faded away, and I became completely absorbed in the chilling narrative. The author’s masterful storytelling transported me to a realm filled with suspense and dread, where every turn of the page revealed new horrors and unexpected twists. I was so engrossed in the characters’ struggles and the eerie atmosphere that I just didn’t want to put it down.
The way the author built tension was nothing short of brilliant; I found myself holding my breath during the climactic scenes, my heart racing with anticipation. Each chapter left me craving more, and I often found myself reading late into the night, the glow of my reading light illuminating the darkened room while the rest of my family slept peacefully, blissfully unaware of the terror I was experiencing within the pages of this gripping tale. The combination of the book's spine-chilling plot and the hauntingly beautiful cover made this reading experience one I will cherish for a long time. It was a perfect blend of art and storytelling that kept me on the edge of my seat, and I can’t wait to dive into more works from this talented author in the future.
The Review
“We Came to Welcome You” by Vincent Tirado is a novel that follows queer BIPOC couple Marisol “Sol” Reyes & Alice Song as they navigate life after moving into a new community. Not all is what it seems in their bizarre new neighborhood. Strange happenings are just the beginning in this twisty psychological horror. I really enjoyed the characters, especially Sol, who was a bit standoffish and no nonsense almost to a fault. I didn’t know what quite to expect from this story but it had me gripped the entire time. Highly recommend!
