The book was presented to me with an expectation that my insights would contribute to its overall reception and understanding among potential readers. What caught my attention immediately was the unique format in which it was written, which was markedly different from the typical structure of the books I usually gravitate towards. This particular work is based on a podcast, and as I delved into its pages, I quickly realized that it indeed reads much like a transcript or an adaptation of a spoken dialogue rather than the conventional narrative style I am accustomed to. Initially, I harbored some reservations about how this format would translate into written form, particularly concerning the flow of ideas and the depth of exploration of the topics at hand. I wondered if the conversational tone that often characterizes podcasts would come across as too casual or fragmented when presented in a book format.
However, as I progressed through the chapters, I found that the format was not an issue at all; in fact, it turned out to be quite the opposite. The Review
“Write About Now” by Jonathan Small shares various origin stories of creatives (guests) from his podcast. These interviews inspire human connection through common threads that mold us into our unique identities. I loved that the premise of the book is to not only share these inspiring origin stories but also to spark creativity within others by these stories. The conversations were fascinating and gave the average Joe a glimpse into how these particular creatives got their start and what propelled them into different subsets of writing. The only aspect of the book that I disliked was that I think it needs another round of proofreading. Overall, I think Jonathan Small knocked this book out of the park making this a motivating and influential read, highly recommend!
